Fatimh Al Nemer

Visual Artist

Born in the lively centre of Qatif in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, Fatimah Al Nemer began her creative journey two decades ago. Initially captivated by goldsmithing and jewellery design, she later expanded her craft to become a diverse visual artist. Her portfolio is a vivid tapestry that includes oil and acrylic paintings, collages, textiles, prints and installations.

As a quiet young girl, Fatimah found her voice in art. “In my youth, I wasn’t very outspoken, and drawing helped me express my thoughts and desires. Through art, I not only felt liberated but also grew more confident.”

Her art has been showcased internationally, from the UNESCO Palace in Paris to the 2015 Misk Path of Incense exhibition and the 2012 AD Contemporary Art Exhibition in Sweden. These global platforms highlight her growing influence in the contemporary art world.

Fatimah Al Nemer’s work stands as a powerful manifesto for women’s empowerment. She sees art as a vital tool for women to articulate their individuality. “Many resilient women with incredible stories have struggled to find their voice, despite their remarkable journeys.” This belief deeply shapes her artistic direction.

Her creations tell the transformative story of a woman moving from silence to empowerment. Each piece reflects not only the challenges faced but also the strength that emerges from them. She passionately believes that “by embracing their inner selves and capabilities, individuals can achieve great feats.” Her work compellingly affirms this conviction.

Fatimah’s artistic process is intimate and immersive. She absorbs real-life stories, observes nuances and imagines walking in the footsteps of the individuals who inspire her. At times, she even dreams about them and awakens with a crystallised mental image.

In her visual language, Fatimah often obscures the eyes and specific physical features. “Eyes usually convey so much—they’re the window to the soul and often the first thing you notice in a conversation. I hide the eyes to invite viewers to uncover the story themselves, to look deeper into the persona and reflect on the emotions.”
